Latyr, Amar and I set out for Gobi on the 12th. Its quite a long drive from UB just to get there, about 750 km. We drove for most of the night and ended up camping at a place called the burning cliffs. Which is beautiful red clay that has been eroded and washed into cliffs. Apparently you can find dinosaur bones there as well.
Illegally panning for gold.
Barely see any cars in the gobi desert. Maybe 5 other cars a day, and when you do you feel a sense of relief that if you do get stranded at least there will eventually be someone passing by to save you. There are no "roads" just tracks that cars usually drive on. So you try to follow those and use a compass heading to get to the next town. We were lucky to have a lot of rain but that meant that sometimes the "roads" were washed out and you didn't really know which way to go.
We were amazing lucky the entire trip. First we didn't pop a single tire, which is amazing for 4 days in the gobi, second it rained a little everyday so the desert was actually incredibly green and full of life, it also calmed the heat and dryness, third we saw wild gazelles which is rare. We camped at the flaming cliffs, we snow/sand boarded down the sand dunes of Khongoryn Els, we hiked into the moon valley, we saw a flash flood, saw condors flying in a large group, eagles flying as well, and an ancient dwelling. It was absolutely amazing. would 100% go back.

VALLEY OF THE MOON
We bought and drank alot of fermented horse milk - Airag - which is delicious, tangy, fizzy, sour and semi-alcoholic (1%). People are super friendly and you dont have to knock before entering a Ger, they will always have dairy products for you, it's a sign of wealth to have lots of dairy products to offer (which means lots of sheep to make the milk).
Its said that when people who all have the same energy set out on a trip that it is bound to go well, and with the success we had with this trip, will definitely need to do another one. So I will be seeing Latyr and Amar in Senegal next year.
