Nadaam festival - Mongolia

Naadam - great fun. Started with watching the knuckle bone flicking, where they flick tiny discs at targets with fingers.

Then saw the opening ceremony. Was very large, had old costumes and great music and dancing.

Then we went to the wrestling. The biggest people get to pick their partners and there are no weight classes so the biggest always just picks the smallest and then picks on him. Maybe 5% of the time the smaller opponent can win with speed and agility. All you have to do is be on top of the person while he is in the ground. Most of the small guys get eliminated first

Archery was great. They shoot at two levels of targets on the ground 75 meters away. Each target is about 10 centimetres. They get 20 arrows each and rests it eh targets after each hit. The more targets knocked over total the more points they get.

We walked around a bit more and then got the car ready to head off to gobi tomorrow!
